Blogger Starshine: Kimberly

Blogger Starshine is a collection of blogger interviews full of blogging tips, inspiration and advice.

I meet Kimberly on twitter, and I have been linking-up at her Traffic Jam Thursday party for months!  She is also a published author, and I am looking forward to reading her murder mystery novel. She has really great answers to share with us today.

What is your niche?

I struggled with that for a long time when I first started blogging in 2013 because I write about so many diverse things. I am a lifestyle blogger. I blog about writing a murder mystery novel series, raising an only child with my husband, living in Louisiana, celebrities/entertainment, and my need to be better at all things all the time.

What hosting/platform do you use for your blog?

I use a self-hosted WordPress platform via GoDaddy. I initially used Blogger but transferred nearly a year later. Best decision that I ever made for my blog. WordPress.org allows me to have a large array of features and options for my site. GoDaddy’s hosting rates are very reasonable and I have been pleased with their support.

Do you use social media schedulers?

I have used social media schedulers such as HootSuite in the past but found the process a bit complicated for my needs. What works best for me is the Publicize feature that is part of the Jetpack plugin package for WordPress. I have it set up to automatically share any new posts to Twitter, Google+, and Facebook whenever I hit the PUBLISH button. Twitter and Pinterest are my most active social media accounts. I am anxious to be more visible on Instagram and YouTube in the near future.

Have you ever attended any blog conferences or taken e-courses?

I have taken a few blogging e-courses. They were instrumental in giving me ideas on how to expand my network and re-purpose old posts. I have not attended a blog conference yet, but would absolutely love to go to one with a variety of niche bloggers. I also want to take some marketing/PR classes to help me with strategies and goals to grow my site and promote my novels.

Do you have a newsletter?

I do not have a newsletter currently, but readers can subscribe to my posts via e-mail. I use MailChimp to send out a reminder for my weekly linky party, Traffic Jam Weekend, which goes live on Thursdays at 5:00 pm CST. It’s an awesome linkup for bloggers/writers to get new traffic for old posts.

What is your most active post? What do you think is the draw to that particular piece?

My most active post is Pinterest to the Rescue. It details my search for a healthy snack for my young son who eats 24/7. I believe the draw to the post is the picture of these cute little frozen fruit pops in plastic cups that Gina from SkinnyTaste.com made.

Are you working on any projects right now?

I am currently working on the second novel in my murder mystery series. The first novel, Acting On Her Behalf, features a successful film actress that is arrested for her best friend’s murder during a live televised awards show. The suspenseful tale is filled with crime, secrets, love, and mayhem. You can find it on Amazon at https://t.co/zZToxJoGTl in digital and print format.

Kimberly was one of the first bloggers I connected with when I started blogging not so long ago. She’s incredibly talented, funny, and an all-around sweetheart. Love her!

Great interview. Anyone new to the game should take her advice! 🙂
